Awi Usdi Poster

from £20.00

Part of the "Totems" series.

This is one of many illustrations I created during a time of deep reflection and meditation. The deer is a figure that represents grace and serenity—and embodies the qualities of peace and balance.

It was during this reflective period that I also studied Cherokee wisdom (as it is in my ancestry). In Cherokee legend, Awi Usdi, the Little Deer, is a sacred figure symbolizing respect, balance, and the interconnectedness of all life. The story goes that humans were becoming wreckless with their killing and consumption, so in order to guide humans to better behavior, Awi Usdi appeared in their dreams to teach them the importance of living in harmony with nature and honoring the spirit of every living being. I think we could do with Awi Usdi’s intelligence today and every day.

This work is printed on thick matte paper and made to order.
